Sugarloaf Mountain Real Estate

Resort

Located high in the western mountains of Maine, Sugarloaf was first developed in 1950 when Amos Winter and the Bigelow Boys cut the mountain’s first trail, now known as Winter’s Way. Sugarloaf opened for business in 1951, and became home to a unique and loyal community of skiers, known as “Sugarloafers.” Sugarloaf grew as the years passed, and the famous gondola was installed in 1966, offering guests a continuous ride from the base of the mountain directly to the summit. Sugarloaf continued to thrive throughout the years, with investments in new snowmaking, grooming, and new lift technologies. The Sugarloaf Golf Course was constructed in 1985, making Sugarloaf a true multi-season destination.

Sugarloaf has become known as a skiers’ mountain. While varying terrain accommodates all levels of skiing, those who deem themselves serious skiers attack a host of classic trails including Bubblecuffer, Skidder and Ripsaw. And on a select number of days each winter, the famed Snowfields are open, offering a ski experience unrivaled in the Northeast. The Sugarloaf owner benefits from a long season that has been known to stretch into early May, with amazing spring conditions.

Boyne Resorts, in partnership with CNL Lifestyle Properties, acquired Sugarloaf in the summer of 2007. Their aim is to preserve the Sugarloaf tradition of great skiing and celebrate the boundless outdoor recreation available in this mountain region. Boyne and Sugarloaf have announced a goal of doubling Sugarloaf’s snowmaking capacity while simultaneously reducing the requisite energy by 50 percent. Long term vision will ensure the Sugarloaf experience and community continue to thrive for years to come.
